Description: Sarracenia flava var. rugelii is the largest North American pitcher plant. It is a South-East US native and is referred to as "cut throat trumpet pitcher" because of its unique red splotch. Specimens can grow 3 feet tall with 5 inch wide lids. In terms of pitcher plant species for sale, this is a must have for serious bog gardeners. It is larger than the very desirable white top pitcher plant, Sarracenia leucophylla and produces its best leaves in early spring. The flower is large, yellow and smells reminiscent of mixed fruit and ammonia. This would pair beautifully with the colorful, medium-height Sarracenia flava Waccamaw or a Sarracenia purpurea hybrid like Sarracenia 'Judith Hindle'.

Pitcher Plant Care: Plant in full sun to part shade outdoors. Use peat moss and perlite in a very large planter and keep it wet. It loses its leaves in the winter. Cold hardy to 20F in a pot and 0F in the ground.

All plants will ship bare root, without pots and soil.
