Description: Sarracenia ‘Waccamaw’ is the most beautiful example of flava var. atropurpurea. It was likely imported to New Zealand by Christchurch Botanical Gardens in the 1980’s, possibly from North Carolina. The plant eventually found its way to Don Gray, who cultivated and registered it.
In the spring, new pitchers emerge colored bright red. The intense red color saturates the entire exterior of the leaf. In striking contrast, the interior is bright yellow, maturing to red with vertical venation. Phyllodia are produced in fall. It is by far, the most attractive Sarracenia flava in cultivation.
Sarracenia 'Waccamaw' typically produces 3 pitchers per growth point and readily forms a clump. It grows to 28 inches tall. A mature clump of this dramatic cultivar is an impressive sight. It is an absolute must for any serious pitcher plant gardener.
Pitcher Plant Care: Plant in full sun to part shade outdoors. Use peat moss and perlite in a very large planter and keep it wet. It loses its leaves in the winter. Cold hardy to 20F in a pot and 0F in the ground.
All plants will ship bare root, without pots and soil.
